1.            2 Timothy 3:15-17

                        All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

                        Scripture, the Bible, according to this text, is profitable or beneficial for 1) doctrine or teaching, 2) reproof or showing us what we did that was not right, 3) correction or bringing us into the right way, 4) and instruction in righteousness.

                        The Bible is God’s Basic Instructions Before leaving Earth! 

                        Transition:  And the Bible contains God’s plan for our future.

2.            2 Peter 1:19-21

                        Prophecy is even more correct than an eyewitness.  Prophecy is not subject to any private interpretation.  We must let God’s Word interpret itself.  When the Bible interprets itself we can know that what we have found is true and reliable.

                        Transition:  Jesus tells us the reason for prophecy in John 14:29...

                        Jesus tells us things before they take place so that when they do take place we will believe.

                        Transition:  How far in advance can God tell the future?  What claim does He make?

                        God tells us the end from the beginning.  God can tell us in the beginning what will happen in the end!  Can you do that?  Not a chance!

                        Transition:  Now we are going to take a look at a foundational prophecy in the book of Daniel.  This prophecy spans all of history to the present time.

                        Reasons for Nebuchadnezzar’s dream:

                        1.to show what would happen in the latter days/end of time

                        2.to show what would happen between Neb.’s day and the end of time

The Millennial Man     Daniel                      Realize IMAGE man is bowing too, Gold head- Babylon, Silver-Medo-Persia, etc. This is an idle or image and it represents government as you can clearly see below.  You will notice that Babylon was a long time ago and Rome broke up in A.D. 476 and the formed into Europe. We are into the feet and God destroys the feet with a non-man made stone. The End of our present world.   My point is when the government tells you (LAW) to bow to Sunday or Saturday the person is bowing to the image and not the Word of God.  2. Book of Daniel was completed  641 years before Rome fell into 10 divisions  There is so much controversy because of what proves, the expert historians have really picked this one to death. They clam The Book of Daniel was completely completed by 165 B.C. as of this time. Many of the experts would of like the date after A.D. 476 and disproving the Word of God.   Rome Empire  168 B.C. - A.D. 476 . Book of Daniel 165 B.C. completed and chapters 1-6 were written earlier than this date. Lots of research dates parts of Daniel, lots eariler.                         165 + 476 = 641 years before Rome collapsed  The Book of Daniel predicted Rome would break into 10 divisions, 641 years prior to this event happening.    If Rome had not broken into 10 divisions it would of destroyed Christianity and God's Word.

Gold = Babylon The head of gold represented Babylon, which was the ruling world power from 612-539 B.C.= 73 Silver = Medo-Persia The chest of silver represented Medo-Persia, the ruling world empire from 539-331 B.C. Bronze = Greece The thighs of bronze represented Greece, the dominant world ruler from 331-168 B.C. Iron = Rome  Divide into 10 divisions listed below.  This is where I realize all these events actually happened and God told the entire story before it happened.   The legs of iron represented Rome, which enjoyed world supremacy from 168 B.C.-A.D. 476.  Iron and Clay = the Divided Empire The feet that were partly iron and clay represented a divided empire that would not cleave together. No single power has ruled the world since A.D. 476, and it will remain divided until Christ's return.  Here is were reality set in for me. This is a true story that can be checked out in library.  The ten divisions of Rome 1. Alemanni - Germany. 6. Visigoths - Spain. 2. Franks - France. 7. Anglo-Saxons - England. 3. Burgundians - Switzerland. 8. Ostrogoths - Exterminated. 4. Suevi - Portugal. 9. Lombards - Italy. 5. Vandals - Exterminated. 10. Heruli - Exterminated. History is very clear that the Western Roman Empire divided into ten separate kingdoms, Alemanni, Franks, Burgundians, Suevi, Vandals, Visigoths, Anglo-Saxons, Ostrogoths, Lombards, and the Heruli; this is the order that they came into prominence in the western empire. History is also unmistakably clear as to who uprooted the three exterminated kingdoms. It can be attributed to one power only and this power is the little horn of Daniel 7, which is synonymous with the beast from the sea in Revelation 13 and the power that enforces the mark of the beast, the Papal Church of Rome.

                        Another kingdom will arise after Babylon.

                        Rome is represented by this fourth kingdom!

                        Rome is divided into 10 divisions as represented by the toes.

                        Divided Rome spans to our day!  See below.

                        Truly God can tell the end from the beginning.

                        The event that culminates this period of time (the reign of divided Rome) is God establishing His Kingdom.

                        God will establish His Kingdom next and it will last for eternity!

                        Transition:  The stone turns the metal man into dust that is blown away by the wind.  We can either be crushed under the rock that represents Christ’s Kingdom, or we can be broken and depend on Him.

                        If we stay with Jesus we will be broken, but not crushed!

                        Transition:  God will set up His Kingdom because He is the only One Who has the right to it!

4.   Matthew 24:1-3 They really asked 2 questions, even though they thought they were asking only one. They thought that something as bad as he destruction of the temple had to be the end of the world. So tell us “when shall these things be” the destruction of the temple, “and what shall be the signs of thy coming and the end of the world” the end of everything.

5.   Matthew 24:4-7 First thing Jesus warns about is being deceived concerning the events leading up to His second coming. Then He gives a description of the signs and as these things are happening says “but the end is not yet”. Have we not always had all these things? Yes, and Jesus knew that.

6.    Matthew 24:32-33 - Like a fig tree. When it is at a certain stage of bloom, then you know that it will soon be summer. Then there is the other illustration.

7.    Matthew 24:8 - The word sorrows as translated in the King James Bible does not catch the meaning of what the original Greek is saying here.  The Greek word is odin and is better translated as birth pains.

Interesting statement! In other words Jesus says it will get worse and worse until it finally ends. As you see the “contractions” get closer and more intense then you know it is near.

9.    Matthew 24:7 (Wars, Famines, Pestilences, Earthquakes)

Wars - 15 Million + in WW1 “The War to End all Wars”     Then 55 Million+ in WW2   There have been estimated to be more deaths in the 20th century from war than all previous combined.  (Jesus said it would get worse before it gets better!)

Famines - 800 million people go hungry each year. Between 40 and 60 million people starve to death each year, many of them children. That means between 110,000 and 165,000 people die per day of starvation.

Pestilences - Swine flu is not the only pestilence that has ended up in the headlines in recent years. Ebola, MRSA, AIDS, and the hanta virus have also risen from obscurity to well-known status in recent years. Diverse places all over the globe have seen one or more of these viruses. This current outbreak is just another pestilence among many.

Earthquakes -  According to long-term records (since about 1900), we expect about 17 major earthquakes (7.0 - 7.9) and one great earthquake (8.0 or above) in any given year. (Statement from USGS web site)

Source of Evil - a personal angelic rebellion against God

1. Genesis 1:1-4 According to verse 4, God saw that it was what? Good.

The word “good” occurs 7 times in this chapter alone; 4, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25, 31.

When God made the world it was good.

Since God made everything in the beginning good, what happened?

5.King of Tyre was an earthly, evil man. In this symbolic vision, God takes Ezekiel behind the scenes of the King of Tyre’s life to see who was controlling him, which was Satan. We know it is talking about Satan because it says he was in Eden, and he was the seal of perfection.

5.“Perfect” is used three times (12, 12, 15) - He was created perfect

5.14 - “anointed cherub who covers” - sanctuary language. The OT sanctuary consisted of three parts: courtyard, Holy Place, Most Holy Place. In the MHP there was a box, inside were the 10 commandments, the box had a lid, on the lid were two angel figurines that symbolize the angels that stand beside God in heaven. By saying the “anointed cherub who covers” God was telling Ezekiel that this angel dwelt in the immediate presence of God’s throne.

5.17 - Does God take any responsibility for this corruption? No, he says, “Your heart, You, You, You.”

6.13 - “I” is the foundation of sIn, sin originated in self-seeking. Lucifer wanted to be more than what God had appointed him to be.

6.*Illustration: Let me illustrate how this happened. Some people say, “Why did God create this being if He knew he would rebel?” Imagine if a gunman were to come into this auditorium right now and tell us all to stand up or we would be killed, we would stand. If he told us to spin around and bark like dogs, we would spin and bark, etc. What if that same gunman pointed that same gun at you and said, “I want you to love me with all your heart or I will kill you.” Could you love him? No, because love and loyalty cannot be forced. No one can love on command. On your wedding day, “I do” is so important and beautiful because, “I don’t” is an option. God created Lucifer with free will, the ability to choose to serve, to choose to love, to choose to be loyal or to choose not to.

Thrust of Evil - Satan wants that which he never deserves, the worship that is due only to God

7.      2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 The figure revealed in verses 3, 4 is what the Bible calls, “the antichrist.” Don’t get confused or overwhelmed by this mention of the antichrist because we will have a whole study on it, but just notice that the antichrist acts a lot like Satan.

     4 - What does he do - Exalts himself

     Who does he pretend to be? God

           Why? The longing desire of Satan’s rebellious heart is to receive worship and

           honor which he is not due. The text here says that he will do it through this

          antichrist figure.

Revelation 13 is the antichrist chapter in the book of Revelation. Let’s go there and see more about this antichrist and his role.

8.      Revelation 13:1-4 (12:9 Dragon is Satan) the way that the dragon is worshipped is by people worshipping the beast. The antichrist is Satan’s frontman to receive worship.

All that is between Genesis 2 and Revelation 21 is God trying to bring His people back to perfection. Revelation 22:4 “They shall see His face.” Adam and Eve saw His face in the first Eden, God will bring back that face-to-face communication.

11.        1 Peter 5:8 The devil is playing for keeps

12.        Revelation 12:7-9 The forces of evil are fighting the forces of righteousness.  This battle is raging over the lives of men and women on this earth.  This battle is raging over you! 

13.        1 Corinthians 15:57  The only way for us to have victory in this battle with evil is to cling to Jesus.  He is our strength to overcome the devil/satan.

14.        John 16:33 It is no mystery to every one of us that there is tribulation in this world.  There are unexplainable circumstances in our lives that we want to blame on someone.  But that someone must never be God.  He promises us peace in the middle of our tribulation!

15.        1 John 4:4  Christ has overcome the world and the forces of evil for us.  We must rely on Him to keep us safe from the devil/satan.

Appeals: Is it your desire to overcome all that you know to be evil in your life?  Have you been struggling with all that is evil in this world?  What would keep you from allowing Jesus to make you victorious in  your life? 

Based on what we’ve learned today, God’s question for you is, do you want to be turned from darkness to light, do you want your eyes to be opened, do you want the forgiveness of sins so you can be with Him for eternity?

Defend It (Difficult Texts):

1.  Q: Why did God create Satan?

1.A: He didn’t. God created Lucifer and Lucifer by his own free will and choice, chose to become Satan.

2.  Q: Why did God create Lucifer, knowing that he would sin?

2.A: What God fore-knows is not necessarily what He fore-chose. God would rather take the risk on a real relationship than be alone or be in company of robots. Apparently God would rather wrestle with the often stubborn will of man, than reign supreme over rocks and trees.

*Where sin is not a possibility, freedom is not a reality.

3.  Q: Why does there have to be so much evil in the world?

3.A: We don’t fully understand why God has allowed evil to go the distance that it has, however we also know that evil will not have been in vain.

9.*Illustration: The billionaires club - Imagine that you wanted to become a member of the billionaires club. To be a member how much money do you need to have? One billion. If you’re one billion in debt, how much do you need to be a member? Two billion, one to get out of debt and one to get into the  club. Jesus death is like the first billion dollars, it pays the penalty, the debt of sin. Since Jesus paid the debt of our sin, all we have to do is live the rest of our lives perfectly without sin and then we will be saved. Jesus’ life is the second billion that gets us into the club.

9.Since Jesus died for everyone, does that mean that EVERYONE is saved? Salvation is available to everyone, but we must choose to receive it.  How do we receive salvation?

Simple Questions with Simple Answers:

1.  Q: Can you lose the gift of Salvation? (Once saved always saved)

1.A: No, if what you mean by that is lose your salvation like you can lose your shoe. God will never take it from us, but you can give it back.

Extra - Why is it free for us? There was no other way that God could have given it to us.

Galatians 3:21 - If there was a way for a law to give us righteousness, He would have done it. If he could have saved us by our own obedience He would have done that, but He couldn’t.

We have a mechanism that God used to save us, the cross. He can be true to His law, and true to His mercy. He poured out the wrath of sin on Jesus, the demands of justice were satisfied, now I can be the recipient of mercy. 

Once saved, always saved as long as you remain saved.

The number one reason why people aren’t making decisions for God is because no one is asking them to.

The Holy Spirit brings conviction to us and that leads us to Jesus for help. This is the most powerful comparison. The sea beast tries to copy the ministry of Jesus! Notice that these are not open attacks, but more of a subtle impostor. The dictionary definition of impostor is a person who pretends to be someone else in order to deceive others, esp. for fraudulent gain.

We must know Jesus so that we are not deceived

Knowing who the antichrist is will do us no good if we don’t know who Jesus Christ is. Eternal life comes from knowing Jesus. Now that we have discovered that the plan of the devil is to counterfeit the truth it will make the work of finding out who the Bible points to as the antichrist an easy task.

These three Arian kingdoms were a threat to the supremacy of the Bishop of Rome [later called the Pope]. To make a long story short, these three kingdoms eventually were uprooted by the imperial power acting under the influence of the Bishop of Rome. It is of great significance that in 533 A. D. Justinian proclaimed a decree which recognized the Pope’s headship over all the churches of east and west. This decree was actually a letter written by Justinian to Pope John. But the Ostrogoths were still a threat to the supremacy of the Pope. They were uprooted in February 538 A.D. Thus Justinian’s decree went into effect making the Bishop of Rome supreme.

The Bishop of Rome, in the seat of the Caesars, was now the greatest man in the West, and was soon forced to become the political as well as the spiritual head. To the Western world Rome was still the political capital — hence the whole habit of mind, all ambition, pride, and sense of glory, and every social prejudice favored the evolution of the great city into the ecclesiastical capital. Civil as well as religious disputes were referred to the successor of Peter for settlement.

Read these things in the prophetic Scriptures; … and then, I say again, deny the truth of Divine Revelation, if you can. The 1260 years foretold in prophecy were therefore A.D. 538-1798.

                        Scripture tells us that there is only one Name given that can save us from our sins and that Name is Jesus Christ.  It is for this reason that John the Baptist called Jesus, “the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.”

                        The reason that Jesus came to this earth was to save us FROM our sins, not in our sins!

                        Jesus IS the POWER of God to overcome sin.

Transition:  So what is the Grace of Christ?

Grace:  We are going to parallel three texts showing that “Grace” is the “Power of God.”

                        Jesus is the only way that a person can be saved because He is the Author of Grace, the power of God to overcome sin.

                        Notice how God’s Grace, that which brought salvation, teaches us to:

                        WHEN should we do this?  According to the text, we should do this “in this present world.”  Now.  Today, we should live a righteous, sober, Godly life. Paul tells us that we need to live this way because we are sinners...Transition:  What does “sin” mean?

Sin:

                        According to this text, “sin” is living a life of “lawlessness,” living a life of breaking God’s Law.  Living a life without regard to God’s Law.  Transition:  What Law tells us what sin is?

10.        Romans 7:7, 12

                        Paul says that he would not have known sin except by the law.  What law?  The law that said, “Thou shalt not covet.”  Which law says that?  The Ten Commandment Law.  The very Law that is called “holy, just, and good” in verse 12.  Transition:  What is it that our sin does to our relationship with God?

                        Our iniquities/sin/breaking of God’s Law separates us from God.  Transition:  God’s people are those who keep God’s Law.

                        John clearly tells us that God’s people, the remnant, keep the commandments of God!  He shows us the same concept in Revelation 14:12.  Transition:  Notice what Jesus says about His Law in Matthew 5:17, 18.

                        Jesus tells us that He did not come to destroy the law or the prophets, but to fulfill them.  **Some may say here that Jesus fulfilled the Law so that we do not have to or Jesus did away with the Law by fulfilling it.   If that happens, show them Matthew 3:15.  Matthew 3:15 says that Jesus came to fulfill all righteousness.  Does this mean that Jesus came to do away with all unrighteousness?  Certainly not.  Transition:  Keep Matthew 5:17, 18 in mind as we read the Law.  Jesus said that He did not come to destroy the Law.  So as we read the Law, let’s ask after each one if Jesus destroyed that part of the Law.

                                                Isaiah 42:21--Jesus came to “fill” the law “full” of meaning.

                                                (Jot. Gr. iōta, the ninth letter of the Greek alphabet, corresponding to the Heb. yod, the smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet.

                                                Tittle. Gr. keraia, literally, “a little horn,” probably to be identified with the little hook on the letter wau.  The Jews had a tradition that if all the men in the world should attempt to abolish the least letter of the law, they could not possibly succeed. To do so would incur guilt so great, they reasoned, that the world would be destroyed.)

14.        Exodus 20:1-17

                        Remember to ask after each Commandment if Jesus did away with that Commandment.  The obvious answer is, “NO!”  It is not necessary and you should not focus on any commandment, but to read each one and allow the student to give the correct answer.  Transition:  God’s Law is eternal.  Thus God expects His people to keep His Law eternally.

15.        Ecclesiastes 12:13

                        Through Solomon God tells us that the keeping of the Law is the whole duty of man!  Transition:  The keeping of the Law is our hearts response for the Salvation that comes through Jesus.  It is a response of obedient love.

(To “fear” God is to regard Him with profound and reverent respect (Ex. 19:10–13; 20:20) and to have proper regard for His will (Deut. 8:6; Prov. 3:7; Eccl. 12:13; Isa. 11:2, 3; 33:6).)

                        We show God that we love Him by keeping His Commandments.  Scripture could not be clearer.  All scripture concerning the Law teach us to obey God’s Law.  If it appears to say something other than that, then we need to study those texts to have them line up with God’s expectations of His people.  Transition:  Jesus tells us His expectations in John 14:15.

We’re going to study the part of God’s law that has been attempted to be changed.

1.  Daniel 7:25 - describes anti-christ power, what is it going to do in relationship to God’s law? Intends to change God’s law.

2.  Revelation 14:12 - God’s special people will be obeying the commandments of God. (all ten) The antichrist will be so deceptive that people who claim to be following God and thinking they are doing right will actually be obeying the devil. How can this be?

Let’s look at the part of the law that has experienced the change.

3.  Exodus 20:8-11 - This is the Sabbath commandment which asks us to rest on the seventh day of the week, but there has been a change and now people are worshipping on the first day of the week.

Who made the Sabbath?

4.  John 1:1-3,14 - Jesus is the Word that was with God, who is equal with God, He was the active agent in creation. Who was the God that said to keep the Sabbath? Jesus.

4.Christ created the Sabbath in the beginning and Christ gave the Sabbath commandment on Mt Sinai. (1 Corinthians 10:1-5,9  ;  Colossians 1:15,16 God made all things. Let’s look at the first created Sabbath.

5.  Genesis 1:31-2:3 - God rested on the seventh day and blessed it.

A lot of people think that God is saying to just pick one day to worship Him on, work six days and rest one. But that is flawed thinking, God rested on a particular day, this is a unique day because it is sealed with God’s holiness.

What was the Sabbath made for?

6.  Mark 2:27,28 - What day was man made on? The sixth day.

6.What day was the Sabbath made? The seventh day.

6.God made the Sabbath for mankind, does not say that the Sabbath was made for the Jews. The Sabbath is to be a blessing to humanity, not humanity to be a blessing for the Sabbath.

How did Jesus relate to the Sabbath while He was on earth?

We’ve learned Christ created the Sabbath in Eden, commanded the Sabbath on Sinai, kept the Sabbath in His life, clarified the Sabbath in his death and now we’ll find out how Jesus expected his disciples to relate to the Sabbath after His death.

9.  Matthew 24:20 - Jesus was talking in 31AD and he said that Jerusalem would be destroyed in 70AD, and for the 39 years in between He tells His disciples to pray that their flight would not be in winter or on the Sabbath. Jesus expected that after His death the winter would continue, so He was expecting that the Sabbath would continue after His death.

10.             Acts 13:14-16,37-39,42-44 - Paul comes to church on Sabbath and the leaders ask if he has anything to say, so he preaches. Who begged to hear more preaching? The gentiles. Who hears the sermon on the next Sabbath? Almost the whole city.

10.If the day was changed why wouldn’t they have announced that they did not need to wait until the next week, that they could have just come the next day? What was Paul doing the other six days of the week?

11.              Acts 18:1-4  Paul was working six days a week and was preaching to both Jews and Greeks (gentiles) on Sabbath.

Let’s read a wonderful promise about the future.

12. Isaiah 66:22,23 - Sabbath has existed from the beginning and it will exist in the end.

God created the Sabbath in Eden, commanded it on Mount Sinai, kept it in His life, clarified it in His death. Everyone will be keeping the Sabbath in the new Heaven and the new earth. If all of these people in God’s history are committing to keeping the Sabbath, what would keep you from keeping it. You choice is to follow Jesus Christ and keeping the day holy that HE blessed, or you can follow the antichrist and his deception of a counterfeit sabbath. Which will you choose?

**Important question to ask: After learned all of this from the Bible, how do you feel about the Sabbath?

Do you see that the Sabbath day is the seventh of the week?

                        The emphasis is that Jesus is going to return.

                        Transition:  It was the hope of the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise to return that caused the early church leaders to have a pure heart.  We see this in our next verse...

                        We can see here that it is the hope of the return of Christ that motivates one to have a pure heart.

                        Transition:  Those who have a pure heart are the ones that Jesus is coming back for.  He comes the second time with no reference to sin but to bring salvation to those who are pure.

3.            Hebrews 9:28

                        Jesus comes back to this earth to take His people home.  He comes the second time without reference to sin, for the purpose of salvation.

                        Transition:  What will that second coming of Jesus be like?

4.            Acts 1:9-11

                        Visible.

                        Notice in this passage that a word describing “sight” appears five times.  Note them: 

                        vs. 9--”watched,” “sight”

                        vs. 10--“looked”

                        vs. 11--”gazing,” “saw”

                        Verse 11 tells us that Jesus will come in the same manner that they SAW Him go into heaven.

                        Transition:  Jesus’ return to this earth (His second coming) will be a visible event!  Notice what Jesus says to John in Revelation 1:7...

5.            Revelation 1:7 (Psalm 104:3; Psalm 68:17)

                        Again we see that the second coming of Jesus will be a visible event.  “Every eye shall see Him...”  All of those who are living at the second coming of Jesus will see Jesus coming in the clouds.

                        If using the KJV, the texts in parentheses will tell us what the clouds are made of...Let’s look...

                        Psalm 104:3--Describing God the Psalmist says, “who maketh the clouds his chariot...”

                        Transition:  At the second coming of Jesus the earth will be breaking apart.

                        Will you be able to stand when Jesus comes?

                        What prayer group will you be in?  The one that says, “Lo this is my God.  I have waited for Him?” or the group that says, “mountains and rocks fall on me?”  Where will you be?

                        Transition:  With mountains and islands moving and disappearing, the second coming of Jesus will not be a quiet event at all.

10.        Psalm 50:3

                        God will not keep silent when He comes!

                        Transition:  Jesus and the entourage of angels, with the glory of Himself and that of the Father, will cause such a noise that even the “dead in Christ will rise.”

11.        1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

                        Those who sleep in the dust will awake to the shout of God, the voice of the archangel, and the trumpet of God!

                        Transition:  It is at that moment that all are changed into perfection.

Intent of Study:  To show that the millennium begins at the second coming of Jesus Christ.  It is a period of judicial review that culminates in the eternal destruction of the wicked.

Focus It:  Christ allows His followers the opportunity to review the decisions that He and the Father have made.  He allows us to see that He is fair and just in all of His ways.

Two Resurrections

1.            John 5:28, 29

                        Here we see that there are two types of people that are resurrected.

a.   A resurrection of life

b.   A resurrection of damnation

Transition:  The Bible also says that there are two classes of people resurrected in Acts 24:15:

                        Again here we see two classes of people resurrected:

a.   A resurrection of the just

b.   A resurrection of the unjust

Transition:  When do these resurrections take place?

Resurrection of the righteous:

3.            1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

                        Scripture tells us that the “dead in Christ” rise at the second coming of Jesus.  This is the resurrection that we want to come up in!  Transition:  The righteous are raised at the second coming, what happens to the wicked people at the second coming?

Destruction of the wicked at the second coming of Jesus:

4.            2 Thessalonians 1:7-9

                        Verse 7 gives us the context of the second coming.

                        Verse 8 tells us that the wicked (those that “obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ”) are destroyed.

                        So at the same time that the righteous are raised, the wicked are destroyed!

                        This means that the two resurrections occur at different times.  Transition:  What will happen to the wicked that are killed at the second coming?

5.            Jeremiah 25:30-33

                        Verse 33 tells us that the wicked will be spread from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth.  Where at this point are the righteous?  They have been taken to heaven! Transition:  The second coming of Jesus begins the Millennium.  Revelation 19 describes the second coming of Jesus and is followed by Revelation 20 that describes the Millennium.

The Millennium:

How long is Satan bound?----------1,000 years  Here is the Millenium

Satan is bound in a “bottomless pit” = “abussos.”  THIS IS THE VERY SAME WORD THAT IS USED IN THE GREEK TRANSLATION OF THE OLD TESTAMENT IN GENESIS 1:2.  Satan is bound by his chains of circumstance!  The righteous are not on the earth any more and the wicked are dead!

 Transition:  Jeremiah once again brings light to this point in …

7.            Jeremiah 4:23-27

                        Verse 26 tell us the context of the passage...“broken down at the presence of the LORD...” ie the second coming.  This earth is a bottom less pit of ruin and destruction.  “Yet,” God says, “I will not make a full end.”  Hang that on a hook in your mind and we will pull it off later. Transition:  Destruction is all over the face of the earth, the wicked are dead, where are the righteous?

8.            Revelation 20:6, 4

                        The righteous are reigning with Christ for 1,000 years!  Transition:  What will the righteous be doing during that 1,000 year period that Satan is bound to this earth?

The righteous are judging the wicked:

9.            1 Corinthians 6:2

                        It is during the 1,000 year period that the saints are judging the world.  Transition:  Look at what Paul says two chapters earlier...

10.        1 Corinthians 4:5

                        Judge nothing before the time, before the Lord comes!  It is only after the Lord has come that we start judging the world and the angels.  Transition:  What will be the standard for the judgment?

11.        Psalm 149:4-9

                        Verse 4--When is it that the Lord beautifies the meek with salvation?  At the second coming.

                        Verse 5--Where are the saints?  In Glory.

                        Verse 6--What do the saints have in their hands?  A two-edged sword!  What is this a representation of?

12.        Ephesians 6:17--The Word of God!  The saints that judge the world and angels have the Word of God as the standard for their judging!

We have a choice to make at this point...Do we want to be judged or to do the judging?  Transition:  When does the resurrection of the wicked take place?  Remember that the wicked are dead for the 1,000 year period, the righteous are with Christ for the 1,000 year period.

Wicked are resurrected at the end of the Millennium to be destroyed:

13.        Revelation 20:4b-5a

                        Verse 4b--Who is it that was living and reigning with Christ for the 1,000 year period?  The saints.

                        Verse 5--Who then is the rest of the dead?  It has to be the wicked! The wicked are raised at the end of the 1,000 year period

14.        Revelation 20:7, 8, 9a, 11-13, 9b, 14-15

                        Verse 7--Satan is loosed from his “chains” when the wicked are raised.  Now he can tempt someone again...the wicked who chose to listen to him in the first place. 

                        Verse 8--Gog and Magog is defined in the text as the “four quarters of the earth.”

                        Verse 9a--The wicked try to attack the city

                        Verse 11-13--Great white throne judgment.

                        Verse 9b--Fire pours down out of heaven and destroys the wicked

                        Verse 14-15--Death and Hell were cast into the lake of fire...the second death...eternal death!  Transition:  What happens to the earth after that?

Righteous inherit the earth:

                        Jesus promised the earth as an inheritance to those who humble/meek.  Transition:  So Jesus recreates this earth and makes it new.

                        God will create a new heavens and a new earth.  Transition:  Back to perfection!

                        John sees what your heart has been longing for.

                        Do you want to see it?  What would keep you from seeing it?

Who was hell prepared for?

1.  Matthew 25:41 - Hell was prepared for the devil and his angels. Hell was never intended to have people in it, I have no business being there.  (It says nothing about everlasting life)

If hell wasn’t prepared for humanity, what was prepared for us?

2.  Matthew 25:34 - The kingdom was prepared for us.

Where on earth is hell anyway? “Yes”

3.  Revelation 20:5-9 - On the earth. The fire comes down from God out of heaven and devours them. Sounds like the wicked are destroyed.

When on earth is hell?

4.  Job 21:30 (2 Peter 3:4-7) - the wicked are reserved for the day, people do not go to hell right after they die. Reserved for fire until the day. It is not now.

Revelation uses a lot of language from other places in the Bible so in order to understand let’s look at another verse with similar language.

7.  Isaiah 34:8-10 - John uses the same language as Isaiah, forever and ever. Isaiah is talking about the destruction of Edom, the end of verse 10 says that no one will pass through the smoke forever and ever. If we go to Edom today, we will not see smoke rising anymore.

Appeals:

Do you see that God is a God of love, do you see His passion even in the execution of the judgment. Is it your desire to accept the death of Jesus, the experience that Jesus went through in the garden of Gethsemane and on Calvary as your substitute. Is there anything that would keep you from accepting Jesus as your substitute?

1.A: 18 - How many personalities do you see in verse 18? Christ, God, the Spirit - the trinity.

1.19 - “by whom” the spirit. The spirit is the one preaching to the spirits in prison.

1.Isaiah 42:7,22-24 those that are in prison = in darkness, those who have sinned, disobedient to God’s law = the ungodly.

1.Not in prison, this is a reference to those who are lost.

1.Isaiah 61:1 Prison-house of sin, bondage of addictions.

2.-The importance of witnessing. Israel failed to warn the gentile world and they were guilty of their death. You only have one life to live.

The very thing that God hates, sin, is wrapped around the very thing that God loves, the sinner. In order to destroy sin, He has to destroy the sinner.

The subject f death has intrigued many through the ages . . . What happens to a person when they die?  Does a person goes to heaven or hell when they die? Can we communicate with the dead?  In search for answers to these and many other questions about death, men has come up with a wide range of answers.  But, how can we know for certain the answer to this questions?  The Bible provides clear answers . . .

To understand death we must look at how life originated . . .

1.  Genesis 2:7 - Dust (body) + Breath (spirit) = Living Soul/Living Being

1.Cheese (Queso) + Tortilla = Quesadilla

What happens when a person dies?

2.  Ecclesiastes 12:7 (Genesis 3:19) - Death is the opposite of life.  The Bible explains it  clearer . . .

3.  Psalm 104:29,30 - Living Soul/ Living Being - Breath (spirit) = Dust/Death

What is the spirit that returns to God?

4.  James 2:26 - “the body without the spirit is dead”  The Hebrew word for breath is ruach.  It means air, wind or spirit.  At death this spirit or breath returns to God. 

Let’s see how the Bible describes death . . .

5.  John 11:11-14 - death = sleep.  There are more than 50 references in the Bible where death is compared to sleep.

We are going to look at a few verses that describe the state of the dead . . .

6.  Ecclesiastes 9:5,6 - the dead know nothing.

7.  Psalm 146:4 - thoughts= perish

8.  Revelation 14:13 - rest from their labours

But, isn’t the soul immortal?  Well, let’s see what the Bible says about that . . .

9.  Ezekiel 18:4 - soul that sinneth it SHALL die

In fact the Bible tells us that there is only one who is immortal . . .

10.             1 Timothy 6:15,16 - only God is immortal

So then where do the dead go when they die?

11.             Job 21:32 - to the grave . . . REMAIN in the tomb

Does that mean that a good person when they die they do not go to heaven?

Well let’s see . . . the Bible makes it clear that David is saved.  Is he in heaven now?

12.             Acts 2:29, 34 - Not in heaven.

Then, when will God’s people receive immortality?

13.             1 Corinthians 15:51-53 - at the second coming

14.              1 Thessalonians 4:14-17 - second coming

Introduction:

Genesis 1,2 - We see a perfect God, in a perfect world in face-to-face communication with perfect people.

Genesis 3 - Revelation 20 - God trying to get back to face-to-face communication with His people.

Revelation 21,22 - We see a perfect God, in a perfect world in face-to-face communication with perfect people.

This is why we see God telling Moses to make a Sanctuary in Exodus 25.

1.  Exodus 25:8,9 - Why did God want a Sanctuary built? So that He could dwell among them. Where did God want to be? Among His people.

1.9 - Pattern - remember this for later in the study.

God shows Moses a pattern on how to built the Sanctuary. In order to show that Jesus is a fulfillment of that Sanctuary we will read our next verse.

2.  Matthew 1:23 (John 1:14) - Jesus comes to earth and one of His names is Immanuel which means, “God with us.” Where did God want to be? Among His people. Therefore Jesus is a fulfillment of this earthly Sanctuary.

2.John 1:14 - “dwelt” = tabernacle. Jesus was in verity (a true principle of belief, one of fundamental importance) the OT Sanctuary.

We will see Jesus in every aspect of this earthly Sanctuary. When someone came to the earthy Sanctuary they were coming to be with God. God’s presence dwelt in the Most Holy Place.

3.  John 14:6 - What’s the only way that we can get to the Father? Through Jesus. How did people get to the Father in the Sanctuary? By going through the entrance.

3.Jesus is a reflection of whom? His Father.

Altar of Burnt Offering - where the sacrificial animal was burned: fat, kidneys, caul - Leviticus 4:8,9

4.  John 1:29 (Hebrews 12:29) - Everything burnt on the altar was a representation of sin. Christ is the sacrificial animal that was consumed on the altar of burnt offering.

4.Hebrews 12:29 - Jesus is the fire that consumed sin.

We can let God consume sin in us now, or we can let God consume us at the end of the 1000 years.

Laver - Where the priest would be washed.  Symbolic of washing away sin or filth.  (Exodus 29:4--Moses was instructed to wash Aaron and Aaron’s sons with water.

 Exodus 30:18-21--Priest was to wash before going into the temple or he would die.)

5.  John 13:10-14 - Jesus must wash us as well before we can see God Face to face.

Now we’re going to go into the Holy Place of the Sanctuary. Only the Priests could go into the Holy Place and only the High Priest could go into the most Holy Place. We’re going to turn to the left.

Golden Lamp Stand

6.  Exodus 25:31-37 - (31,36,37) Characteristics: pure gold, shaped by being hammered/beaten, give light.

7.  Isaiah 53:5 (John 8:12) - Prophecy about Jesus being beaten for us. He was the pure lamp stand that was beaten to give light to the world.

7.John 8:12 - Jesus is the light that shines so that we are not in darkness and that we may have life.

Table of Showbread - two stacks of bread, each had six loaves. Every Sabbath the Priests would make 12 loaves of fresh bread and replace the old loaves. (Leviticus 24:5-8 Matthew 12:5) Bread of His presence.

8.  John 6:35,51 - Jesus is the bread of life, the bread of His presence in the earthly Sanctuary.

8.Jesus is the Word made flesh, He is the bread of life, His words are life. 

Altar of Incense

9.  Exodus 30:1,7,8 - to burn incense every morning and evening, supposed to smell good. A perpetual sweet smell before the Lord.

10.              Psalm 141:2 - Our prayers are like the incense that was offered before the veil in the Holy Place.

11.              Revelation 8:4 - The smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints ascended before God.

Who is it that ever lives to make intercession for us?

12.              Hebrews 7:25 - Jesus is the One who presents our prayers before the Father.  It is His sacrifice that makes our prayers sweet to the Father.

13.              Ephesians 5:2 - It is Christ’s sacrifice that is a sweet smelling savor before God.

We will now enter the Most Holy Place of the Sanctuary. Only the High Priest was allowed to enter the Most Holy Place and only on one day of the year: Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur.

Ark of the Covenant

14.              Hebrews 9:4 - We see the tables of the covenant inside the ark of the covenant.  This ark is inside the Most Holy Place!  These tables of the covenant are the commandments of Jesus.

15.              John 14:15 - Jesus asks us to keep His commandments!  They are His.  He is represented inside the Most Holy Place by His Law.

16.             Hebrews 8:1,2 - Remember in Exodus 25:9 we talked about a pattern.

16.Jesus is the High Priest in the Sanctuary that the Lord pitched, not the one that man set-up. When Moses is shown a pattern what is He shown a pattern of? The Heavenly Sanctuary.

16.There is a Sanctuary in Heaven.

16.Where is Jesus is our High Priest? In the Heavenly Sanctuary.

16.The Heavenly Sanctuary is the pattern that God showed Moses.

Jesus is a fulfillment of all the furniture in the OT earthly Sanctuary.

In the OT earthly Sanctuary there were two types of ministry:

1. Daily Ministration: People would confess their sins and their sins were transferred to the Sanctuary through the blood/flesh of the sacrificial animal. 

2. Yearly Ministration: Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement, Day of Judgement) the day that the Sanctuary was cleansed of sin.

17.             Leviticus 4:1-7 - the daily ministration of the earthly Sanctuary.

18.             Leviticus 16 - the yearly ministration of the earthly Sanctuary: Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement).

Jesus fulfills the daily and the yearly ministration all before He comes back.

19.             Revelation 22:11,12 - Jesus makes the determination of who is unjust and filthy, who is righteous and holy.

19.12 - Has Jesus come yet? No.

Prior to Jesus’ second coming the judgement/atonement is complete.

Next week we’ll study when the Day of Atonement happens in Heaven.

Appeals: The reason the Sanctuary was made was so that God would dwell with men. 1 Corinthians 6:19,20 our bodies are the temple of God.

There was something that kept Him from doing that, sin.

Is there anything in your life that would keep Jesus from dwelling in you?

Don’t confess this to me, confess it to God.

Matthew 19:26 Nothing is impossible for God.

God can save, God can take it out of your life.

Get them to accept Christ into their life and allow Christ to cleanse them from sin.

1.  Daniel 9:20-27 - If we read from verse 1-19, there is no vision.

1.21 - Daniel says he saw Gabriel in a vision, he must be referring to a prior vision.

1.22 - Gabriel comes to give Daniel skill and understanding.

1.23 - Gabriel tells Daniel to consider the vision, the vision Daniel had before chapter 9.

2.  Daniel 9:24 - 70 weeks are “determined” = chathak - to amputate, to cut off. This is the only time this word is used.

2.The vision has to have a time element because that is what Gabriel is coming to help him understand.

When did the command go forth to restore and build Jerusalem?

5.  Ezra 7:7,11,12-26 esp. 24-26 - In the seventh year of Artaxerxes he tells Ezra to return to Jerusalem and restore the temple.

11.Mark 1:14,15 - Jesus begins His ministry, He says, “The time is fulfilled.” He is referring to the 69 weeks.

11.Jesus’ ministry was 3.5 years - based on 4 passovers happening, found by reading the entire book of John.

12.             Matthew 27:50,51 - Shekinah glory was hanging on the cross. God tore the curtain to show that the sacrificial system was over.

How is it that Jesus, who dies in the middle of the week, can confirm the covenant with many for the entire week?

13.             Hebrews 2:3 - At first who came preaching salvation? Jesus.

13.How was it confirmed? By those who heard.

13.It was preached for the last 3.5 years by those who had heard Him teaching.

Jesus of Nazareth IS the promised Messiah.

The Jews were given 490 prophetic days = 490 literal years to spread the gospel and they failed.

What happens at the end of the 70 week prophecy?

14.             Acts 7:54-8:4 - Those who were scattered went preaching the Word.

14.Fall of 34 AD Stephen is stoned.

15.             Acts 22:20,21 - In the fall of 34 AD the Gospel goes to the gentiles. Saul is commanded to take the Gospel to the gentiles.

If we take out the 70th week, the gospel would never get to us.

Appeals: Jesus is the focus of the 70 week prophecy, is Jesus the focus of your life?

Intent of Study: The end-time, pre-advent judgment commenced in 1844AD when Jesus Christ entered into the Most Holy Place of the Heavenly Sanctuary.

Focus It: Jesus is fair, therefore He judges us before He gives us our reward.

1 - 3rd year of Belshazzar Daniel has a vision = “hazon”

2 - vision = “hazon”

3 - Ram with two horns, the higher one came up last

4 - Horizontal power, stays on the face of the earth, became great

5 - Male goat which has a notable horn between its eyes

6 - Goat attacks Ram

7 - Goat breaks Rams two horns and destroys him

8 - Goat became very great, the notable horn breaks and four horns replace it which grew up to the four winds of heaven

9 - Out of one of the four winds comes a little horn which becomes exceedingly great.

10 - Grew up - vertical power. Cast down host and stars to the ground and tramples them

11 - Exalts himself as high as the Prince of the host.

“He” = Little horn

“Him” = Little horn - takes away the daily

“His” = The Prince of the host

12 - Transgression allows the little horn to get an army to oppose the daily

Casts down truth and prospers

13 - Two holy ones are speaking. One says to the other, “How long will the vision be?” Vision = “hazon”

14 - The answer comes when the Sanctuary is cleansed, 2300 days.

9.  Daniel 8:15-27 - The explanation of the vision

15 - Vision = “hazon”

16 - Gabriel is commanded to make Daniel understand the vision. Vision = “hazon” (the portion of the vision with the men in it).

17 - Vision = “Hazon”

18,19 - The end is at an appointed time

20 - Two horned ram = Media and Persia

21 - Goat = Greece, Notable Horn = first King - Alexander the Great

22 - Four horns = four kingdoms, but not with its (Alexander’s) power

23 - latter time of their (four kingdoms) kingdom. Another King arises who understands sinister schemes (Papal Rome). We know that the little horn is Papal Rome by comparing it to Daniel 2 and Daniel 7.

24 - Little Horn has power that is not his own. Where did the little horn get its power? Revelation 13:1,2 Power comes from the dragon. Revelation 12:9 dragon = serpent, devil, satan.

538 AD - 1798 AD = 1260 prophetic days/literal years that the papacy has dominion. (50-100 million Christians were destroyed). He did it in the name of God.

Destroys mighty and holy people - fulfillment of Daniel 8:10 cast down host and stars. 

25 - Magnifies himself in his heart - Isaiah 14:12-15 (stars = angels Revelation 1:20) On the North side of the sanctuary was the table of showbread = the table of His presence. Little horn is a representation of satan working through an earthly power to magnify himself. 

Stands up against the Prince of princes - Jesus. When Jesus ascended into Heaven, He became our High Priest in the Heavenly Sanctuary. Performs the daily ministry of the Heavenly Sanctuary: transferring the sin from the people onto the animal, sacrificing the animal and taking the blood into the Sanctuary. The little horn stands against this by having confession.

Broken without human means: During the reformation the power of the papacy was broken via Bible study. Secondary meaning: Second coming of Jesus.

26 - 1st Vision = “mareh” 2nd Vision = “hazon”

27 - Vision = “mareh”, no one understood it

Gabriel was commanded to help Daniel understand, but now Daniel is saying that no one understands. Gabriel was unable to finish explaining it because Daniel fainted and got sick. Every part of the vision was explained except for the “mareh” which is the part that he needed to understand.

10.             Daniel 9:20-24

21 - Vision = “hazon”

22 - Gabriel comes to give Daniel skill to understand

23 - Vision = “mareh” (the element where the two men were speaking)

24 - 70 weeks are cut off (chathak) of the 2300 days of the “mareh” that Daniel didn’t understand

490 days of the 2300 days = 1810 more years

70 week prophecy ended fall 34 AD + 1810 = fall 1844

In 1844 was there an earthly Sanctuary? No.

What Sanctuary is left? The Heavenly Sanctuary.

Jesus is in the Holy Place from His ascension until 1844 performing the daily ministry of the Heavenly Sanctuary.

In 1844 He moves into the Most Holy Place to perform the yearly ministry.

1844 was the beginning of the cleansing of the Sanctuary in Heaven.

When Jesus ascended to Heaven He had to follow the pattern of the early Sanctuary service so He had to go to the Holy Place first to do the daily ministration.

11.             Mark 16:19 - Jesus sits on the right hand of God. God’s throne is in the Holy Place, symbolized in the earthly Sanctuary by the table of showbread - bread of His presence.

Do you want to see a Biblical picture of Jesus and the Father in the Holy Place?

12.             Revelation 1:12,13 - John sees Jesus among the lamp stands, which are in the Holy Place.

Now we’ll see a picture of God’s throne moving from the Holy Place, into the Most Holy Place.

13.             Daniel 7:9-14

9 - Thrones being set-up, the Ancient of Days was seated. There are burning wheels on God’s throne. It has wheels so that it can move.

10 - The court was seated (literal translation: began to sit), books are opened

11-13 - When Jesus goes into the Heavenly Sanctuary, the daily that was performed on earth is recognized as done in Heaven. This judgment is after all of the kingdoms.

Jesus comes to the Ancient of Days (God the Father) and judgment begins. This is what William Miller missed, he didn’t realize that Jesus came to the Father, not to the earth.

What is Jesus doing in the Most Holy Place?

14.             Malachi 3:1-6 - Explain refiners job: crucible, fire, dross (impurities on the top). The heat of the fire caused the impurities to come out. The refiner knows that the metal is pure when he can see his own reflection in the metal perfectly. The refiner would not leave the metal in the fire too long or else it would evaporate.

Those who are dead are judged according to their lives.  Those who are alive are being refined by His fire.

Appeals: Are you willing to let the refiner purify you?

The 2300 day prophecy is the last time prophecy in scripture. Ever since 1844 we have been living in the end of time. The reason Jesus has not come yet is because He has yet to find a people that perfectly reflect His character.

We will stand in the sight of a Holy God without an intercessor. Are you prepared for that? If Jesus were to come back tomorrow, if He made the determination today, “He that is filthy, let him be filthy still and He that is holy, let him be holy still,” what group would you be in? I want to be in the group that is declare righteous. I trust that God in His grace will make the right decision.

Intent of Study: Baptism by immersion is the public declaration of faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Focus It: Baptism is a representation of the death that Jesus died for us that we may have LIFE eternal.

1.  John 3:1-8 - How does He know that Jesus is come from God? Because of the signs He performs.

1.2 - Nicodemus focused on the external miracles of Christ.

1.3 - Jesus focused on the greatest miracle of all. Being born from above - conversion.

1.5 - What does it mean to be born of the Spirit?

1.6 - What does the flesh produce? Flesh. What does the Spirit produce? Spirit.

3.  Mark 16:16 - He who believes (is converted) and is baptized will be saved. He who does not believe will be condemned. Baptism is a natural result of conversion.

Let’s look at some examples of baptisms in the Bible.  We will begin by looking at Jesus’ baptism.  He is our example so it is important to find out the manner of His baptism.

5.  Mark 1:9,10 -Jesus comes up out of the water indicating that He must have been in the water.  “was baptized of John”  The word there “baptized” in Greek “baptidzo” means to immerse, submerge, to make fully wet

Let’s look at one more example . . .

6.  Acts 8:36-39 - “and they went down into the water . . . And when they were come up out of the water . . .”

It is interesting to see what caused John the Baptist to choose the location he chose for baptisms . . .

7.  John 3:23 -  Why did John choose this location?  “because there was much water there”.  Why was it important that there was much water there?  You need much water to fully immerse someone in it. 

The method of baptism is dictated by the meaning of baptism.  Let’s see that in . . .

8.Baptism is a symbol of:

8.1. The death of Jesus - cessation of breath

8.2. The burial of Jesus - being put under or in something

8.3. The resurrection of Jesus - coming out of, or out from under what you were put in

8.So that we are no longer producing the work of the flesh

8.How many types of baptism have you seen in your life? Immersion, sprinkling.

8.The only method that fits all three points is immersion.

Three Biblical Preconditions to Baptism

Can a child comply with any of these steps? NO.  Then we can conclude that the Bible doesn’t support/approve the baptism of a child until he/she is old enough to understand the teachings of the Bible and to repent from his/her sins. 

If you were baptized as a baby, your parents intentions were to put you in the hands of God.  But, your parents best intentions can not take the place of God’s Word! 

Appeals: Acts 2:38, 2 Corinthians 6:2

Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you will receive the Holy Spirit. Prior to baptism the Holy Spirit works from the outside in, after baptism the Holy Spirit begins working from the inside out.

Is there anything that would keep you from being baptized?

Jesus told Nicodemus that unless a man is born from above he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. Is it your desire to enter into the kingdom of God?
